My favorite Betsy Brannon Green novel. Young widow Kate is put under witness protection as the wife of a small-town police chief (actually an FBI agent) and they work together to discover and survive the secrets of her deceased husband.

Based on a true story. Daughter of Hawaiian chief takes captive English sailor John Harbottle to avenge the death of her husband, but instead they become allies between nations.

First and second books in the Mayfield Family series by Kilpack. The third just came out and I have a little catching up to do. I love her other Regencies. Lord Mayfield hopes to entice his children to marry.

Joanna Barker's first novel of a governess suddenly given an inheritance on the condition she live for one month with her estranged family.

Christian suspense romance in which man and woman from different centuries meet. With over a thousand 4 star ratings on Amazon it has to at least be worth looking into.

Steampunk retelling of Sleeping Beauty.

Clean Romance:

Hawkins Brothers clean romance books 1-3 on sale.

Free Georgia Patriots novel by Cami Checketts. A football player and the team marketing director are kidnapped and stranded on an island together.

History:

Sounds like Profiles in Courage for war: fourteen stories of men and women who acted courageously at the risk of their own lives to show mercy and compassion in war.

True story of the whaleship Essex that inspired Melville's Moby Dick and the Chris Hemsworth movie.

Harriett Tubman, a name we're all familiar with from history and the recent movie Tubman, devises and leads a plantation raid to lead Union gunships to the Combahee River.

Mystery/Adventure:

Particia Cornwall has been on my TBR list for a while, but I have to be in the mood for a good murder mystery. Dr. Kay Scarpetta is back in Vriginia investigating the death of a young girl. This is number thirteen in the Scarpetta series.

AS a fan of the John Wayne western based on this book, it's been on my list for a while. Fourteen-year-old Mattie seeks revenge on the man who killed her father with the help of tough U.S. Marshall Rooster Cogburn.

Teen/Young Adult:

This is one of my favorite books! It even ties with Anne of Green Gables for favorite Montgomery novel. Spinster woman given a short time to live due to her heart condition and she realizes she's been afraid to do anything her whole life. Such a fun read!

Another favorite novel set in the same universe as Lowry's The Giver, but we don't find the connection until the third book. Young girl becomes a special seamstress, working on the fanstic robe of the storyteller, and learing more about her society than she ever wanted to know.

One of my favorite fairy tale retellings! Ella is cursed to be obedient, but longs to be normal and make her own decisions. What is she to do when she falls for her friend, Prince Char, but he's out of reach?

Book Review: Northbrook Elite Hockey Series

What am I doing in this time of social distancing? Writing some and reading occasionally if my girls permit that. I don't have a lot of spare time, but this month I seem to be in a hockey mood. I haven't watched much hockey in my life, but I'm re-reading the Northbrook Elite Hockey series for the third time.  I enjoyed the first collaboration of these three authors, The Belltown Six series, but I think they nailed it in their more recent endeavor. Unlike Belltown, I like every single book in the series and every character.
Six professional hockey players from around the country learn that the beloved club team (where they got their start) is in huge financial trouble. They reconnect with each other and work together to save the Northbrook hockey program and bring it back to its former glory and prestige. In the first book, Faceoff, Clint McCarthy and Bree Stone, siblings of two members of the Belltown Sixpack, reconnect at a basketball game and start hanging out together, working to find a balance between their previous casual friendship and their new attraction to one another. It's Bree who takes on the problem of Northbrook and implements the strategies to bring it back to life with the help of Clint and his friends. Personally, I think her roommates/helpers are intriguing as well and I wouldn't mind a separate spin-off series about their road to success and love.
I think the best part of the series is the witty dialogue and the depiction of the hard-working, fun-loving pack mentality that gives these men a slightly juvenile sense of humor displayed when they get together or text each other in The Pit group chat. I also love how much I learned about hockey while reading this series because I know even less about this sport than I do baseball. There are good descriptions of terminology, plays, and actions on the ice so it was easy to follow and inspired a desire to attend a hockey game again.
My favorite book of the series is #4 Crosscheck because it stars the best character in the whole series: Zane "Zamboni" Winchester's daughter Hope. She is so adorable and he is such a great father and role-model for her. I've read this book so many times since it came out in February because I can't get enough of the combination of Zane, Hope, and her Zumba instructor Mara. These are all clean romances, but I will say that this one has more intense kissing than the others and that aspect put me off at first.

The series consists of Faceoff, Powerplay, Rebound, Crosscheck, Breakaway, and Shootout.

If you want to learn more about either series, check out the authors' facebook page for Belltown and Northbrook: Swoony Sports Romances.

Books I Love:

One of my favorite Carla Kelly Regencies is on sale for a few days. Teenager Marian falls for one of the men her brother brings home for Christmas . . . and becomes involved in a spy game. Other Carla Kelly titles are now available in Kindle Unlimited.

Originally published as novella "An Invisible Heiress" in the Spring in Hyde Park Timeless Romance Anthology. Cute romance spanning years as correspondents.

Great deal on this set of four Christian novellas about love found by Harvey House employees in the west. Don't know anything about Harvey houses, but love history? This is for you. Each individual novella available now at about $3 each.

Books by Authors I Like:

I love so many books by this author that I can't wait to read her new one, even though the description is so vague! At least I know it's clean!

Free boxed set of Christian Romance novels.

First book in Moore's Prosperity Ranch Series. Divorced mom visits in-laws' ranch for the summer and falls for brother-in-law.

The first in Hedlund's Orphan Train series. Sister journeys west for work and meets heir trying to prove his worth to his father. Great price!

Book in Branton's (Rachel Ann Nunes') Lily's House Series. The oldest resident of Lily's House returns home to face her past.

I like some of Cassidy's suspenseful romances and I'm looking forward to reading this one specifically because it was reviewed as containing no love scenes. Normally $5.

WWII fiction based on her ancestors' lives as Latter-Day Saints in East Germany. It was fun to hear her talk about this book, but I never got around to actually reading it.

Clean romance of dating reality tv star falls for his makeup artist.

Clean Christian football romance originally titled "Her Second Chance Forever Groom.

Clean Regency Romance where heroine must enter engagement to save her family while hoping her love will discover what's actually happening. I like the author, but it sounds needlessly drama-intensive to me.
